Environmental Advocacy

Greenpeace Saving Papua Paradise Forest Programme

Greenpeace is an independent global organization dedicated to protecting the planet, challenging the forces of environmental destruction, and creating a just, green, and peaceful future. The Silent Foundation supports Greenpeace in advancing this mission through initiatives that protect critical ecosystems and uphold the rights of Indigenous communities.

Since 2019, The Silent Foundation has funded the Saving Papua Paradise Forest Programme, a multi-phase effort to defend Papua’s rainforests from illegal land grabs and corporate exploitation. The programme combines field investigations, legal advocacy, and public campaigning to protect Indigenous communities’ rights and preserve one of Indonesia’s most biodiverse ecosystems.

In the first phase, the project focused on mapping traditional lands using satellite technology, educating communities about their legal rights, and raising awareness of deforestation’s impacts. The second phase centers on legal advocacy, with community representatives bringing court cases against companies accused of illegal logging and land rights violations.

“We are privileged to have Mr. Teng and The Silent Foundation as partners who share our values so deeply and are committed to making a difference, creating lasting environmental impact, and inspiring others to take action.”

He further emphasized:

“The partnership between The Silent Foundation and Greenpeace proves that when philanthropy and activism join forces, real change happens. Together, we can create a future where these forests remain standing not just for today, but for generations to come.”

Through this collaboration, The Silent Foundation affirms its commitment to environmental stewardship and to supporting communities whose voices are too often overlooked.

Mongabay Asia Environmental Journalism Initiative

Mongabay is an award-winning nonprofit environmental media organization founded in 1999 to increase public understanding of conservation and environmental issues. Headquartered in California, it produces independent reporting in multiple languages to inform, inspire, and empower people to protect forests, wildlife, and natural resources. Through its global network of journalists, Mongabay provides in-depth coverage of underreported stories, elevates Indigenous voices, and exposes threats to some of the planet’s most important ecosystems.

Since 2018, The Silent Foundation supports Mongabay’s work to expand high-quality environmental journalism in Asia. This partnership has strengthened reporting on biodiversity loss, deforestation, and climate change across Southeast Asia, with a focus on highlighting the impacts of environmental destruction on vulnerable communities.

By funding this initiative, The Silent Foundation affirms its commitment to transparency, public awareness, and amplifying stories that drive positive action for nature and society.
